How can a building materials manufacturer run their day-today operations? May be a few have kilns firing at 2000F or the conveyor belts move tonnage every hour. But this is about a manufacturer who ran their financial closures, production schedules, and consumer operations on the Oracle E-Business Suite R12.  

A regional manufacturer, a backbone supplier to the U.S. construction industry, has chosen Oracle Cloud Infrastructuere (OCI) as their central nervous system for business processing millions in revenue every quarter, supporting hundreds of jobs, and fulfilling commitment to customers.

  • Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) on premises for production workloads

On the surface, everything looked great but beneath the surface, the challenges persisted: 

  • Stretched Lean IT Teams: The internal IT teams have gone flat-out with day-to-day EBS support, ODA database management and OCI DR maintenance, leading to no spare capacity for proactive monitoring and planning. It’s the everyday firefight for them.   
  • Compromised Disaster Recovery: Gaps in synchronization between ODA and OCI meant impossible recovery. Leadership had a big doubt in their minds – if production goes down, how fast can the business recover, and will it work?

During the 12-month engagement model, Infolob was responsible for the ownership of: 

  • OCI tenancy administration 
  • ODA database support (production and non-production) 
  • EBS application monitoring 
  • Disaster Recovery synchronization and testing

OCI Tenancy and DR Environment 

We administered the full Oracle Cloud Infrastructure tenancy that included compute, storage, networking, IAM policy governance as it was our own data center. We continuously synchronized OCI compute images and database backups with on-premises ODA production, maintaining RPO/RTO targets and executing a structured annual DR smoke test to validate recovery procedures end-to-end. 

On-Prem ODA Database Administration 

Day-to-day DBA support for production and non-production Oracle databases with hands-on expertise ensured: 

  • Patch management aligned to maintenance windows 
  • Storage capacity planning before bottlenecks hit 
  • RMAN backup validation (because a backup you haven’t tested isn’t a backup) 
  • Alert log monitoring with proactive escalation 
  • Performance diagnostics and tablespace management 

The client’s internal team stopped spending nights troubleshooting database alerts. We handled it. 

EBS Application Monitoring 

Active monitoring of Oracle EBS R12 application tiers: 

  • Concurrent Manager health (because batch jobs failing overnight kills productivity the next morning) 
  • Workflow mailer status (approvals stuck = operations stuck) 
  • Failed request identification and resolution 
  • Application-tier log analysis with defined escalation runbooks for critical events 

EBS availability supporting financials, manufacturing modules (WIP, BOM), and distribution operations became predictable. 

Backup, Storage, & DR Synchronization 

End-to-end backup lifecycle management using RMAN for ODA databases. These were validated to restore readiness through periodic recovery tests (not just hoping backups would work when needed). 

We orchestrated bidirectional DR synchronization between ODA and OCI environments. Storage utilization tracked against defined thresholds with proactive alerts and capacity recommendations, preventing “out of space” crises before they happened. 

Operational Reporting and Governance 

Leadership got visibility they’d never had before: 

  • Daily health dashboards — uptime metrics, backup success rates, DR sync status 
  • Weekly operational summaries — open incidents, capacity trends, upcoming maintenance 
  • Executive-level status reports — the kind you can present to the CFO or the board 
  • Regular cadenced status calls — not just when something’s broken, but to keep everyone aligned
