Client
Client is a leading provider of financial services with tens of thousands of employees. They run their core business functions using Oracle EBS. Reporting is generated by an Oracle database running on Exadata X7-2 quarter rack database machine and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.

Business Challenge
The Exadata implementation was new to the organization, and the baseline for performance was set using a differing hardware/software solution. The performance of the database on the Exadata was insufficient when compared to the incumbent system.

Infolob’s Contribution
Infolob provided a performance evaluation of the Exadata environment, confirming that its performance was sub-par. Infolob’s team used our proprietary evaluation toolkit to identify opportunities for performance improvement. We recommended the following changes:

  • Reduce the EBS memory footprint by 60%
  • Make indexes invisible on tables larger than 50 GB
  • Enforce a modest degree of parallelism (4) across the whole workload

Business Impact
Due to Infolob’s suggestions, daily reporting workloads were reduced from hours to minutes or seconds. Critical, month-end report jobs were completed in minutes, where previously they had taken hours.
